Well, now it is official. Everyone is convinced that we are in a down period of the business cycle. What are the things that we should be doing so that we ride this out?
It is never easy to manage a distribution business. Prices up and down, employee problems, spiraling costs, vendor relations, and customers all need attention at a differing and sometimes unpredictable times. Customer loyalty, however, in this tough period is probably the single most important item that will see us come out of the recession on the upswing.
To do this we are all programmed with the necessity of giving the best customer service and being there for them. That means having…
- products ready to be delivered when the phone rings and in the right time frame
- the right demand information for each product
- vendor up to date lead times and individual customer requirements all readily available to you
This is the level of service that is necessary to keep customers loyal.
It has always been an axiom in business that if you take care of customers, they will take care of you. Together with a friendly and business-like attitude, the better the up-to-date information that you have at your finger tips, the better you can take care of your customers.

But remember that focusing on your best customers, may leave the others open to a competitor. Generally speaking I think any business has the time to look after all their customers at the moment
